12/11 s/v Trouble Update: I Arrived in Great Harbour Cay (pronounced “Key”) at about 10:30 am. The morning was beautiful with the wind on the nose and building to about 20knots. I had positioned the boat that night so I would have a good sail straight to Great Harbour Cay. After coffee and clearing the deck of a couple of Flying Fish. I got the sails trimmed and the boat headed for my destination. There were about a dozen cruise ships anchored and a few I’d have to weave through. It was a lively run into the wind and waves, but Trouble didn’t seem to mind. She just took off. The islands are very low so I couldn’t see any land till I was about 6 miles out. That’s also when I started to see that pale blue Bahama watercolour. I furled my sails and got the engines started when I was just a couple miles from the entrance. I couldn’t make out the entrance so I just motored along following the Chart plotter and watching my depth. I saw a boat come out and knew that was where I was going. I rounded the land and saw the channel. I had been warned it’s just a cut-through solid rock and not very wide. I just motored up the middle of this cut that would have been scary close if another boat was coming out. It’s pretty narrow. I got through, hailed the marina, prepared the boat for docking, and headed up the windy channel of “The Five Pirates”. A nice big easy dock to get into. The marina took care of getting customs and immigration to come to the boat to clear me in. All went smoothly. I still need to do another Covid test here after 5 days and fill out a Health Survey for the first 10 days. It’s very quiet here, and not much on the island. I have some exploring to do.
