Trouble, Taxes, and West Winds

Hog Cay, The Raggeds, BS — 04•02•24

After finishing up my taxes for 2023, it was time to pull anchor and start heading out of the Raggeds. The first stop on the way out would be Water Cay. While Water Cay has some great polespear fishing I wouldn’t have time. I had to keep moving Another front was coming with West winds. There are limited spots in the Jumentos & Raggeds for West winds. So after an overnight at Water, we headed to Thompson Bay, Long Island.

It was a good run through Comer Channel to Long Island. We dropped anchor in Thompson Bay at 1330. I tried anchoring behind one of the little islands to get protection from the west winds. The anchor wouldn’t hold in the hard bottom there. So, I had to anchor further out. This meant it would be a lumpy night with the west winds and no protection from waves. The west winds would only last a day before the wind would clock through to the north. When that would happen we would get more protection.

After a bumpy night, I moved Trouble over to the north side of the bay, as the winds had clocked around and the North. As the north front comes in the typical wind pattern starts with the normal east trade winds switching to the south and then clocking to the west before the strong north winds come in. I was able to get Trouble tucked in a nice spot for the north winds.

I hung out in Thomson Bay for a couple of weeks just chilling and getting some boatwork done. It has a great grocery store and with the season ending the crowds were thinning out.
