12/16 s/v Trouble Update: It’s been almost a week since I left Florida. This island is very quiet and not much is happening. I biked around the island a bit one day and have been taking the dinghy out in excursions near the harbor.
There is a sunken DC3 that was loaded with marijuana in one bay, I explored. I then went to go try to find the abandoned drug loads house the next day. It was very overgrown I could only get to the runway and a garage. I explored a beach that supposedly in this island’s hay day, Bridget Bardot use to get her all-over tan at. Today I decided I’d try to do the infamous Shark Creek run. Which is a small channel that cuts across the island through the mangroves. You are only supposed to do it at high tide. I started out and found it in the dinghy and started down. It started out nice then it got VERY narrow. My dinghy barely fit, and the mangroves were low, so lots of ducking and knocking spiderwebs down. I was thinking this is really bad I shouldn’t have done this. But I couldn’t even turn around and the current kept pushing me. Then two other dinghies came up behind me from nowhere. I kind of laughed as they had the same look on their face as I was thinking. I trudged on with the others following me. It eventually got wider and then completely opened up. I ended up hanging out with the other cruisers and we snorkeled and looked for lobsters. They got 3 I got none. I really wasn’t trying too hard. After a couple of hours, we had to be heading back but didn’t want to do shark creek again, so we went around the island. It was a rough ride but we had to make sure we did the cut at high tide. I’m not used to judging the water depth in the Bahamas so I let them lead through the shallows. We made it back barley as the water got really thin in spots. It was a good day and I had fun. I think tomorrow I’ll head to the grocery store to see what little stuff they have.
