Lake Worth and 100+ Foot Yachts

11/23 s/v Trouble Update:
Departed Ft Pierce at about 9 am. The tidal current in my slip is fierce. Even though the tide was still going out, I couldn’t wait any longer and had to leave. Solo sailing makes you think way ahead about how things are going to work. I had a plan and got off. It was not elegant, a bit of bouncing off pilings, but I managed to get out without any damage. The inlet at Ft Pierce was rough but, but you just hold on for the few miles to get out. Headed south to West Palm Beach. It was a north wind which was good, but the Atlantic swell was pretty large. Not the worst I’ve had but not the best either. 7 hours and I’m at the Lake Worth Inlet (west Palm beach). Big dredge in the channel and a multi hundred-foot yacht on my tail. The Captain asked if she could scoot by me. I told her I’d pull over to the right and slow down so she could go around me. All fine but just as she went around me she slowed down. Wow just like on the highways, they have to pass you but once they do, they slow down slower than you. Got my anchor down in what I think is an OK spot. It’s pretty windy so I watch for about 30 minutes to see if I’m dragging. All looks good. So it’s salmon and veggies for dinner, then a good night’s rest. I hope to stay here for about a week on anchor.
