The Hermitage

02/21 s/v Trouble Update: I left George Town with 2 other boats to go check out some outer islands. The first stop was Conception Island. This is part of the Bahamas Trust National Park. It had beautiful beaches, supposedly they were pink but the pink is very faint. This island is also a favorite spot for the superyachts. We had four around the bay ranging from 150 to over 400 feet. One day we piled all 5 of us, into my dinghy and went on a mangrove estuary trip. The inlet was on the “outside”. It was a windy day and we made it in at high tide without too much drama. After spending a few hours there we headed back. The tide had dropped and the tide against wind made for breaking waves at the inlet. It was a very rough and wet passage out. We swamped the dinghy no less than three times. We bailed for what seemed forever. We made it out and got back to the boats a little wetter than when we started. There was a northerly front coming in and we needed to move as Conception Island was not a great place to hide from this system.

Hard Sail To Cat Island

We all sailed over to Cat Island, which was about 40 nautical miles. We’ve been here for 4 days now. We’ve moved anchorage here once as the wind veered. We also hike up a hill the “The Hermitage” which was pretty cool. Was able to pick some tomatoes from a field with permission from the owner. We also visited a bakery, liquor store, and grocery store all on the same day. Lots of walking. We are now all hunkered down in our boats as the northerly system has just started. It should last about 2 days. I expect to leave here Wednesday and head back to George Town, in preparation for Kurt’s arrival.
